Sample Pitch Letter #3

Dear Alison,

Meet Bob Katzman. He's originally from Chicago’s South side, he's an author and speaker, he owns the Magazine Museum shop, he's a survivor and a character, and if your Chicago Readers don’t already know him, they will want to.

We have included some background information, but as a start, here's a quick bio:

Bob Katzman was born in Hyde Park but left home at 14 years old. To support himself, he soon started and operated a diverse series of successful enterprises, sometimes simultaneously. When he was 15 years old, he opened the original Bob’s News stand in Hyde Park in 1965. Other endeavors included international news stands, a kosher deli (at 19!), a periodical distribution company, a literary bookstore, and a world travel foreign-language bookstore. In the late 1970s, Bob became the first person to assemble and distribute a group of gay periodicals from all over the USA in the metro Chicago area when no one else would carry them.

Today, Bob Katzman owns one of America’s last back issue magazine stores, Magazine Museum. He’s also the self-publisher – fightingwordspubco.com – of five nonfiction books that cover his life as well as unknown Chicago stories. He has sold more than 5,000 books since 2004 throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Whether hearing him speak or reading his words, people are immediately engaged by Bob’s experiences in and perspectives about Chicago…and, of course, his back issues.

You can contact Bob directly at [phone number] or at [e-mail], or you can contact me. And, here are two links to recent TV features: [links]

Thanks so much for your consideration about someone you should know, and we look forward to working with you on a feature.

Regards.
